How to Play Show Me the FutureSM!
Here's how you play:
- You'll need the free Flash player for Show Me the Future. If you don't already have it, you can download it.
- Once you begin, you'll be assigned a whole new identity including your job, income, whether you're married or single, whether or not you have kids (you can have as many as three), and more. You'll have a checking account with a register, which will contain the money you earned in your new identity. Then, you get to make choices, like the kind of house you'll live in and what you're going to eat, based on your identity. Every choice you make costs money, which will be deducted from the money in your checking account. The trick to the game is to see if you can make ends meet and still have some cash at the end.
- You've got to follow the guidelines provided and make choices based on the family status of your new identity.
- You'll be making decisions about:
- housing,
- transportation,
- childcare,
- food,
- clothing,
- insurance,
- donations to charity, and
- investing.
- When you make a choice, the check will be written, and the money will be deducted from your checking account as shown in the register. You'll see what decisions you've made and which ones you still need to make.
- In addition to the cost of your decisions, there's the "material value". The game recognizes that while an item may cost more, you may value it more because of the perceived quality.
- If you ever forget how much money you have, you can click on the checkbook icon in the toolbar on the bottom right-hand side of the game.
- The most important thing of all: Have fun! If you don't like how things turn out this time around, try again.
- Once you've started the game, don't use the back or forward buttons on your browser as this will take you back to the beginning.
- Are you ready to get started? Just click on the preferred game version on the left and check out your new identity. GOOD LUCK, and let us show you your future!
